Turquoise beads are made from the natural stone turquoise. Typically light blue, turquoise can also be found in red and orange. Some bead workers actually leave the bead in its natural rock form and just drill a hole for stringing.

Turquoise is a popular trend in jewelry right now, so turquoise beads sell quickly. Since the stone is considered semi-precious it’s important to check the quality rating. Genuine turquoise will cost a bit more and have a more natural texture.

Faux turquoise beads are also available but the trained eye will be able to quickly spot the difference. Usually it’s purely the color that is being imitated and there is no mind paid to the shape and texture that natural turquoise often has. Finished pieces containing turquoise can actually fetch a fair dollar amount when sold.
